Two Letters from you have remained unanswered.
The Colonial Treasury dated the 18 Jun 1852.
With reference to these Letters, I am to state that My Lords have no objection to the arrangements made by the Governor for the receipt of the notes of the Oriental Bank at the Government Offices in payment of Revenue, but They do not consider that it would be expedient, for the reasons stated in the analogous case of the circulation of Ceylon, to make them a legal tender for payments.
With reference to your other Letter covering the same date representation from the Civil Servants of Storey & Co., I have to request you to state to Mr. de Fidio that My Lords deferred their observations on this representation pending the correspondence with the Foreign Office regarding the Salaries of the Consular Offices in China.
